Information about Sulden/Solda

Sulden is a small mountain village with 400 inhabitants and is lies at an altitude of around 1,900 meters. Sulden is particularly interesting for tourists in winter. The town has a ski area that takes skiers up to 3,250 meters and guarantees unforgettable skiing fun with around 44 kilometers of slopes. The small village is surrounded by an impressive and beautiful mountain world, the so-called Ortler Alps. These include the Ortler (3,905 meters), the Königspitze and the Zebrú. Together with Trafoi, Solda is part of the Ortler holiday region in Vinschgau and offers many different options for a wonderful active holiday in winter and summer.

There are plenty of interesting winter activities in Sulden and the surrounding area. Here we have put together a small best-of selection:

Skiing and snowboarding: In the Stelvio National Park, at the center of the Ortler group, lies the Solda ski area, which has 44 kilometers of slopes and modern lift systems. The lifts take you up to an altitude of over 3,000 meters above sea level. The ski area is normally open from October to May. The perfectly groomed pistes are divided into different levels of difficulty, so there is a suitable piste for everyone from beginners to professionals. There is also a fun park for freestylers and – thanks to its altitude – the resort also invites freeriders to carve a few curves in the powder snow. Those who prefer it a little quieter will find what they are looking for in the neighboring municipality of Trafoi with a small family ski area.

Snowshoeing and ski touring: Regardless of whether you are looking for a leisurely short hike or whether you prefer a real challenge, Sulden offers countless hiking opportunities. You can explore the hiking trails and the mountain world with snowshoes or touring skis. A summit ascent can be made with the necessary knowledge and equipment or together with an alpine school.

Ice Climbing: An interesting sport where you can experience the thrill of ice climbing is a frozen waterfall or artificial tower. The alpine school offers interesting courses where you can learn the art of ice climbing.

Tobogganing: An approx. 2 km long toboggan run leads down from the valley station in Sulden. Three days a week you can toboggan until late at night on the perfectly groomed slopes as the track is illuminated. The Trafoi ski area even offers an almost 5 km long toboggan run!
Cross-country skiing: Two trails in the Ortler area are ideal for cross-country skiing: the high-altitude trail in Sulden and the panorama trail in Trafoi.

Sulden and the Ortler region are not just ideal for an active holiday in winter. Also in summer there are many different and interesting possibilities. Here is a small selection:

Hiking: There are many hiking trails for everyone in the Stelvio National Park. These include forest paths to alpine pastures and themed trails. In harmony with nature, you can enjoy the beautiful area of the Ortler region around Solda.

Cycling: whether you want to conquer the Stelvio Pass road on a racing bike or discover the various trails of the Ortler region on a mountain bike – Sulden is ideal for a biking holiday.

Climbing: The Tabaretta via ferrata in Sulden and the Tschenglser Hochwand are ideal for climbing. The alpine school offers climbing courses.
