Landscape & Weather
The landscape on the Reschen Pass is characterized by the imposing mountain world, which is the starting point for a wide variety of hikes. Two lakes are the highlight of the region: the large Reschensee and the slightly smaller Haidersee. Due to the diverse flora and fauna and a glacier area, the natural landscape around the Reschenpass is unique and beautiful.
Sights
The most famous sight around the Reschenpass is the tower of the old church of St. Katharina, rising out of the lake. The tourist attraction is based on a tragic story. A dam was built shortly after the end of the Second World War to generate electricity. The villages of Alt-Graun and Alt-Reschen sank into the reservoir and the only reminder that still stands today is the old church tower.
Otherwise there are many small chapels, parish churches, antique farmhouses and rustic dining rooms, all of which are worth seeing.
Winter
Winter at the Reschenpass is very snowy, which is why the area is perfectly suited for a wide variety of winter sports. Here are a few options:
Skiing & snowboarding: There are two ski areas in the Reschenpass holiday region, namely Schöneben in Reschen and the Haideralm in St. Valentin. Schöneben offers modern lifts, wide pistes and even a snow park. The Haideralm, on the other hand, is particularly ideal for more experienced skiers, due to the slopes’ relatively large incline. In addition, both ski areas are easily accessible with a free ski bus and offer many bars and restaurants for a leisurely stop.
Snowshoe hikes & ski tours: The mountain world around the Reschenpass invites you to hike not only in summer. With snowshoes or touring skis, the hiking trails to the alpine pastures, refuges or to a summit can also be mastered in winter. However, beware of avalanches!
Tobogganing: In the holiday region there is the toboggan run in the ‘Talai’ wood in St. Valentin, the toboggan run on the Ochsenberg in Langtaufers and in Reschen the toboggan run at Vallierteck – ample opportunities for a relaxed tobogganing day as an alternative to skiing. The toboggan runs are well groomed and some are also illuminated.
Ice skating: The Reschensee and Haidersee are ideal for ice skating in winter. This is an unforgettable experience, especially when the weather is nice. Make sure there is a safe layer of ice.
These are just a few of the sporting options, you can also go cross-country skiing, snowkiting, swimming…
Summer

Hiking: The surrounding mountains invite you to take a hike in beautiful nature with countless well-signposted hiking trails. There are numerous mountain hikes, hiking trails to the alpine pastures or themed trails for children and adults. There is also the Vinschger Höhenweg, which runs from the Reschenpass to Staben.
Cycling: Leisure cyclists as well as racing cyclists get their money’s worth on the mostly asphalted Adige Cycle Path, which stretches along the entire Vinschgau. If you haven’t brought your own bike, there is the so-called Südtirol Bike, which you can easily rent in Reschen or Malles. There are also many demanding trails for mountain bikers, which can also be reached with the lifts. We also offer a professional bike shuttle service.
Sailing or kite surfing: Kite surfing is very popular on Lake Resia. Kitesurfing lessons are offered also to beginners.
In addition, you can also go fishing, do archery, horseback riding and sailing around the Reschen pass.
